LIFE
Tatik is a working studio in Ivanhoe East. One corner room, floor-to-ceiling windows on two sides, easels, a long shared table, and light for most of the day. It runs as three things at once: a school, an open studio, and a room you can hire.
Classes are small and taught in the academic tradition — for adults, for children, and one to one. What you make is up to you. The training is the same either way: how to look at a thing, and how to get it down.
Open studio is the unstructured half. Bring your own work, take a spot, use the room, and make it alongside other people instead of alone at a kitchen table. Work made in the studio hangs on the walls and can be bought directly, and the space is available to hire for groups, workshops, shoots and small events.
The studio is Tatiana Bolotova's. She trained for eight years in the classical academic tradition in Moscow, then a BA at Central Saint Martins in London and an MA in Art & Design at UNSW. She paints and makes from life — life-drawing rooms, plein-air, an expedition to Antarctica, four collaborative works with Yulia Iosilzon. Academic skill has quietly fallen out of fashion; her teachers refused to let it die, and Tatik exists to pass it on the same way.
The timetable changes with the seasons. Come and look at the room before you book anything.
